WELCOME!

Welcome to the first WICIR newsletter where we will share immediate needs, upcoming events, and an overview of the current landscape! Since the presidential election, there has been fear, pain and exhaustion in our immigrant communities.

To better draw the landscape: people's families are being separated, racial profiling is happening while people are driving and frequently at gas stations (primarily in Ypsilanti), 31 people have called WICIR asking for support since March, the financial needs for legal cases can range anywhere from $200 to $6,500 making it incredibly costly, and we continue to support families whether through public campaigns or personal support. Please continue to keep tabs on WICIR's newsletter, Facebook page, and soon-to-be website to stay on top of how to plug in for you and friends in supporting our neighbors and friends.

The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) has developed great Know Your Rights info packets available in both English and Spanish .

The SE MI Migrant Resource Council has also prepared a resource packet for residents.

In response to the increasing demand for legal services, WICIR is developing a spreadsheet of non-profit organizations and private attorneys in Washtenaw County and the surrounding region, including their fees and areas of practice. The spreadsheet will be updated as new information becomes available!
